PTR’s key missions are to improve safety, productivity and sustainability in the workplace. From conception to creation, our balers and compactors are created with those ideals in mind and they’re made to last. If you’re looking to reduce the chance of employee injury even further, PTR Cart Dumpers may be the answer.
Your waste handling employees spend a significant amount of time moving waste from collection bins to balers or compactors. This leaves them open to back strain and injury. Injuries cause hardship for the employee and organization alike. They are a drain on productivity and costs. You can help avoid them by utilizing commercial cart tippers. A Quieter, Safer Baler: PTR’s New Quiet Pump
Introducing our 50th anniversary option, the Quiet Pump Power Unit.
PTR Baler & Compactor Company continues to innovate and lead the industry with the new Quiet Pump Power Unit. The Quiet Pump can be retrofitted to existing units as a kit and can also be used on compactors. This innovation means major strides in safety, productivity and cost-savings. We’re exited to share some of the exponential benefits of this technology.
The Quiet Pump vastly reduces noise level in the warehouse, which improves workplace safety in a number of different ways. The noise reduction is much less damaging to employee’s hearing. Our Quiet Pump operates at around 60 dB. To give you an idea of what 60 dB sounds like, here’s a few things to compare it to:
-average conversation 60 dB
-vacuum cleaner 70 dB
-garbage disposal 80 dB
-food blender 88 dB
-thunder 120 dB
-bulldozer 85 dBAnother huge benefit is that the Quiet Pump helps employees to be more alert of what’s happening in the warehouse. It allows them to hear other, more dangerous sounds. For example, say a fork lift is in use. Other loud equipment operating simultaneously may impair their ability to be alert to the forklift.
As many companies begin to lessen their footprint and downsize their facilities, customer areas may be just outside the warehouse. Therefore, they’ll be exposed to back room noise. To keep things quieter out front, you’ll want to keep noise levels down in the back. The Quiet Pump will play a critical role in this.
Our April newsletter focuses on the many features and benefits of the Quiet Pump Power Unit. Not signed to receive our e-newsletters yet? Click here to access the ‘Join My List’ Facebook tab and add your email.

PTR has decades of experience working with various retail markets. Retail chains know how critical it is to keep floor space clear, for both safety reasons and efficiency. If sustainability is one of your main goals, PTR’s waste management equipment can help you achieve it. We will analyze the waste stream and provide a custom solution for your company. Our professional staff can assist you whether you are opening a new retail establishment, replacing your old waste baler or compactor, or looking for repair for your current recycling equipment.
Ethically and economically, sustainability policies are critical for all retail businesses today. PTR products are the key to reaching your company’s recycling goals. What was once considered waste, is now a valuable commodity. Instead of further contributing to our country’s growing landfills, you’re diverting that ‘waste’ to a recycling facility. Everything from cardboard, plastic bags, shrink wrap, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and co-mingled recyclables (sandwich bales), are all perfect candidates for waste diversion. Our full line of vertical hydraulic balers come in a variety of sizes to suit your retail business’s individual needs. The benefits are three fold; you’ll meet your waste stream requirements, convert waste removal expense into a revenue stream, and benefit the environment.
Retail establishments including home supply chains, clothing chains and large department stores typically deal with mostly dry waste. Stationary compactors are usually the best equipment to deal with dry waste streams. Check out of full collection of sizes and styles to find the stationary compactor that will work best for you.
Why choose PTR balers & compactors? Your employee’s safety is one of our top priorities when developing our equipment. All of products meet OSHA and NOISH recommendations and are fully UL approved. In just the last 30 years, PTR has produced and sold upwards of 60,000 balers & compactors across the United States. Our Vertical Hydraulic Balers are the answer to keeping critical floorspace clear of dry waste such as cardboard, as well as the ability to implement recycling and sustainability policies. The benefits of our products aren’t limited to any one kind of organization. Markets including Retail non-food, Retail food, Warehouse, Distribution, Industrial, Medical, Universities, Public Institutions and Facility management will all benefit from the increased efficiency, safety and productivity of PTR Vertical Balers and compactors.
Now, in 2018, we celebrate 50 years of leading the industry in safety, innovation and excellence. We offer a line of over 25 baler models and nearly 20 different stationary compactors. All of our equipment is manufactured with quality, safety, longevity and low total cost of ownership in mind. It won’t take long before you notice the cost savings on tipping and compliance fees, fuel and more.
We’ve always strived to lead the way through technology and innovation. The difference between the quality of our product over the competition can be greatly attributed to the expertise of the welders responsible for creating them. PTR welders are all highly trained professionals and fully AWS certified. This is not the norm across the industry, but it always will be at PTR.
Since the first baler was built, PTR has been responsible for many innovations that have shaped the entire industry.
• In the 1980’s, PTR manufactured the first high density baler in the industry, capable of producing 1,000 lbs. bales. It was a huge milestone for the company and the industry, as well.
• In 2003, we implemented a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). By 2012, PTR’s PLC’s were a standard feature in all 10HP balers.
• In 2013, PTR beame the first manufacturer ever to have 3 Third Party Certifications- C-ETL, C-UL and PSR.
• 2016 was the year PTR was the first to produce the 1 ton bale. It was also the year PTR created the first baler installed with load cells that could communicate remotely. We often ask our customers what they want, and what they think will improve their operations. Then we work to deliver the perfect solution. At PTR we know if one organization has a need, many others have that need, too. We’re not showing signs of slowing down, either. PTR will continue to innovate, like with the creation of the new Quiet Power Unit. It’s our ’50th Anniversary Option’ to our Vertical Balers, and it’s the difference between being the noisiest equipment in the shop, to just about the same as a quiet conversation. Learn more by contacting us today.
Another major innovation is the Compactor Weight Scale. This weight monitoring system allows you to optimize pickups for required weights. Why does this matter to you? Because you will be able to truly zero in on accuracy, save considerably on tipping fees, eliminate overweight containers and increase safety.
The system is available for both balers and compactors. Contact PTR to find out the cost-savings this equipment can mean for you. PTR’s Innovative Technology a Cost-Saving Solution
Important Update Regarding ELD Mandate:
As many of you may now, just as of December, drivers and carriers are now required to have ELDs (electronic logging devices) in their trucks. Drivers will now have to use these devices to track their HOS (hours-of-service).
The new ‘ELD mandate’ will have the greatest effect on smaller carriers, since larger organizations have been using ELDs for some time now. There is concern over whether the mandate will result in an increase in the cost of good across the board. This is because of the extra cost the owners and operators of the organizations will incur, which may be then be passed down to the consumer.
With the mandate comes even more enforceable regulations. For example, the length of time you can drive without taking a break is now predetermined and tracked. Additionally, there are other steps drivers must take. The intention of the mandate was to make a safer work environment for drivers, however there is also concern over whether it will cause drivers to feel rushed in order to ‘beat the clock’.More information about how the ELD mandate will effect drivers, carriers, manufacturers, and more can be found here. Now more than ever, productivity in all other facets of the organization will become even more important. Cost-saving equipment like our revolutionary Self-Contained Scale can help mitigate the extra expenses caused by the ELD mandate. This innovative scale is the solution to eliminating overweight containers, allowing your organization to optimize pickups for required weights and saving you big on tipping fees. Our weight monitoring system is available for both vertical balers and compactors. Click here to learn more.

PTR Celebrates ‘Giving Tuesday’ with Visit & Donation to Edison High School
President & CEO Mike Savage & Vice President of Manufacturing Garry Fudala visit Edison High School and donate supplies on Giving Tuesday.
Today, PTR President & CEO Mike Savage and Vice President of Manufacturing Garry Fudala, made a special visit to Edison High School in Philadelphia. ‘Giving Tuesday’ was the perfect opportunity to donate welding supplies to the Philadelphia Technical School’s vocational training class. Edison High School teaches students invaluable vocational trades, such as hydraulics and welding. These are the skills necessary to create tomorrow’s workforce- today. What better day than ‘Giving Tuesday’, to make a contribution towards the future of our country’s prosperity and the success of the next generation? PTR Baler & Compactor Company is extremely proud to be part of the local community. We strive to continually find more ways to give back to those who helped make us as successful as we are today.
‘Giving Tuesday’ was established back in 2012. It’s celebrated across the world as a day to give back and make a difference in our communities. No donation or good deed is too small or insignificant. The word is spread through the power of social media using the hashtag #GivingTuesday. After the mass consumerism that occurs on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, ‘Giving Tuesday’ is a great way to spark the true spirit of the holiday season. It’s the perfect time to support your favorite charities, donate to local food banks, shelters and schools, or find other ways to get involved and lend a hand.
Looking for ways to give back in the Philadelphia area? Mayor Jim Kenney encourages people to donate directly to Philadelphia school through a new site, ‘Philly FUNDamentals’. Donate and learn more here.
